The Amrita Sling Technique is a surgical stabilization method for the foot and ankle, developed by Dr. Ajit Kumar Varma, in lieu of external fixators, which can sometimes cause complications. It is used for patients with destroyed Charcot foot and ankle bones, often caused by diabetes, and provides superior biomechanical stabilization where traditional methods may be insufficient. This technique helps reconstruct the foot, quicken recovery time, reduce the risk of complications, and improve walking ability.
PMMA (Polymethyl Methacrylate) replacement foot bone prosthesis was developed by Dr. Ajit Kumar Varma. It is made using a customized mold or composite material, particularly for patients with severe bone damage caused by conditions such as Charcot neuroarthropathy. This technique involves using 3D CT images to create a custom PMMA implant to replace destroyed bones, helping to avoid amputation and restore function and quality of life.
